Morning session with Barbara. You’ll learn simple breathing techniques and positive emotions that can be used ‘in the moment’ to encourage your body and brain to work together, make you feel better, work better and perform better.
Research has shown that generating sustained positive emotions facilitates a body-wide shift to a specific, scientifically measurable state. This state is termed psychophysiological coherence because it is characterised by increased order and harmony in both our psychological (mental and emotional) and physiological (bodily) processes.
When we achieve coherence, our physiological systems function more efficiently, we experience greater emotional stability, and we also have increased mental clarity and improved cognitive function.
Physiologically, the coherence state is marked by the development of a smooth, sine-wave-like pattern in the heart-rate variability (HRV) trace. This characteristic pattern, called heart rhythm coherence, is the primary indicator of the psychophysiological coherence state and is what you’ll see measured and quantified during the session.
The afternoon session. I’ll focus on The Oxygen Advantage Breathing Programme. The benefits of the programme include:
- Delayed onset of fatigue and lactic acid
- Improved aerobic performance
- Improved VO2 max (maximal oxygen uptake)
- Improved delivery of oxygen to organs and working muscles
- Reduced breathlessness during physical exercise

You’ll learn the new 50-minute workout (not in the book) that provides similar benefits to high-intensity interval training without excessive stress and strain on the body. This workout is perfect to incorporate into any training schedule or fitness regime.
